2018-2019 Wrestling Season

2018-2019 Folkstyle Season

The wrestling season starts Monday, November 1st and runs through February 2019. Practices will be held in the wrestling room at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School in Falls Church.

The Force will again be dividing our wrestlers into two groups: Foundational and Advanced. The foundational group is for beginning wrestlers or wrestlers with one or two years of experience who want to continue to master proven foundational wrestling techniques from top, bottom and neutral positions. The advanced group is for the serious wrestler who has mastered all foundational techniques; and is ready to move on to master proven, advanced wrestling techniques and conditioning drills. 

PRACTICE TIMES

Foundational Group

                Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm to 7:30pm

                Leg Ridding on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 (Optional) 

Advanced Group

                Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 7:45

                Leg Ridding on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 (Optional)

It is imperative your wrestler be on time for each session to ensure proper warm up and team continuity. 

Each wrestler will have the opportunity to wrestle in several tournaments throughout the season.  The tournaments are held on weekends (typically Sundays) in high school gymnasiums throughout the Northern Virginia area.  The tournaments begin in late December/early January and run through the month of February.  

Registration for the 2018-2019 Season opens on Saturday, September 8.  Please click the "Register and Pay" tab on this website for instructions on how to register.

Foundational Wrestling Camp

This camp offers athletes ages 6 to 18 instruction on all foundational wrestling skills from the top, bottom and neutral positons. Designed for the beginner wrestler or an athlete who has wrestled for one or two seasons and wants to continue to master basic, proven offensive wrestling moves as well as counters. Each wrestler will be tested on the techniques that are taught and receive written feedback on their progress.   

When:  Monday, July 23 to Friday, July 27th

FREESTYLE CLINIC - FORMER OLYMPIAN JARED FRAYER

Jared Frayer, Assistant Wrestling Coach at Virginia Tech, will be hosting a freestyle clinic on April 14 at George Mason High School in Falls Church. The clinic will feature two sessions:

Fundamentals of Freestyle - 11am to 1pm

Advanced Freestyle Techniques - 2pm to 4pm

Dual Freestyle Competition - 4pm to 6pm.  After the clinic, the Force Freestyle Club will be hosting a dual freestyle competition for the clinic attendees who are interested. There is no guaranteed match for any participate -the Force will simply attempt to find a match for each attendee with another wrestler of similar age, weight and skill. 

Cost is $45. Registration limited to 50 wrestlers. Please visit the "Register and Pay" section of our website to sign up. 

Jared Frayer is a former Olympian, NCAA Division I finalist, two-time NCAA Division I All-American and is currently an assistant wrestling coach at Virginia Tech University.

A two-time team captain and a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree at the University of Oklahoma, Frayer was the NCAA Division I runner-up at 149 pounds as a senior in 2002. He was also the recipient of the Wade Schalles award in 2000 for recording the most pins of any collegiate wrestler that season.

On the international stage, Frayer represented the United States at the 2012 London Olympics wrestling freestyle at 66 kg.

Frayer was also the 2010 U.S. Open Champion and was named to the United States national team five times. At the U.S. World and Olympic Team Trials, he turned in seven top six finishes. 

Prior to joining the Virginia Tech coaching staff, Frayer was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Oklahoma, and before that he spent time as an assistant coach at Wisconsin, served as the strength and conditioning coach at the University of Iowa and was an assistant coach for three years at Harvard University.

FORCE FREESTYLE CLUB

Season runs from March 20 to May 7. Practice is Tuesday and Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm; and Thursday from 6pm to 7:30.

Freestyle is the form of wrestling most practiced throughout the world and included in the Olympic games. In Freestyle, wrestlers mainly grapple from their feet with points being awarded for takedowns as well as any exposure of your opponent's back to the mat. Virginia holds a Freestyle State Championship for youth in early May. The Force will be practicing twice a week - Tuesdays and Wednesdays - from 6:00 to 7:45 in the Auxiliary Gym at George Mason High School  in preparation for the youth state championships.

The freestyle club will be attending approximately two to three tournaments prior to the youth state championships. The date, time and locations of the tournaments will be announced by the first practice on March 20th. The fee for all weekly instruction from March through May is $195.  Parents will be responsible for providing wrestling shoes, headgear and a freestyle singlet for their wrestler as well as covering any admission fee to the tournaments (usually around $10).  Registration capped at 20 wrestlers.

Wrestling Clinic - Prep for the Season

Where: George Mason High School, Aux Gym.

When:  Sunday, September 17 from 1pm to 4:45pm

Cost:  $30

Ages: 6 to 18

Wrestlers will be divided into two groups - Foundational and Advanced - and provided instruction on techniques appropriate for their skill level.

Session 1 – Introduction to Wrestling. 1pm to 1:15

Session 2- Takedowns. 1:15pm to 2:10

Break 1 – Game

Session 3 – Riding. 2:20pm to 3:15

Break 2 – Game

Session 4 – Escapes. 3:25pm to 4:20.

Break 3 Game

Session 5 – Discussion on injuries and nutrition. Introduction to 6 week Preseason Workout Program. This program was designed by Revolution Gym specifically to assist in preparing youth wrestlers for the 2017 season.  4:20pm to 4:45.

All high school wrestlers must have an up-to-date physical exam from a physician in order to participate.

2017 Force Freestyle Club

Freestyle is the form of wrestling most practiced throughout the world and included in the Olympic games. In Freestyle, wrestlers mainly grapple from their feet with points being awarded for takedowns as well as any exposure of your opponent's back to the mat. Virginia holds a Freestyle State Championship for youth in early May. Wrestlers who place at the State tournament will be invited to the national youth tournament held annually in Fargo, North Dakota. The "Fargo Freestyle Nationals" is the premier youth wrestling event in the United States.

The Force will be practicing twice a week - Tuesday and Thursday - from 6:15 to 7:45 at the wrestling room at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School in preparation for the youth state championships. The freestyle club will be attending approximately two to three tournaments prior to the youth state championships. Mat Club

The Force is planning a Mat Club twice a week during April and May. The Mat Club will give your wrestler the opportunity to continue to master all foundational skills and drills in preparation for next season.  Each one hour session will have the following format:  

  1. teach 2 techniques
  2. introduce Drills to Reinforce these techniques
  3. 5 minutes of Live Wrestling
  4. free mat time - Dodge Ball
